Chairwoman Stabenow Announces Farm Bill Hearing Schedule for February, March
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced the Committee's Farm Bill hearing schedule for February and March. As Chairwoman, Stabenow will continue examining Farm Bill principles and evaluating policy solutions to develop a 2012 Farm Bill that creates an environment in which Michigan farmers and small business owners can continue to create jobs. Last year, under Stabenow's leadership, the agriculture committee was the only committee in Congress to create a detailed, bipartisan plan to reduce its budget. The plan made agriculture programs more cost-effective and cracks down on fraud and abuse to reduce the deficit by tens of billions of dollars while strengthening initiatives to create new Michigan agriculture jobs. -
Senator Stabenow Shines Spotlight on Chinese Attempt to Force Michigan Business Owner to Hand Over Technology
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow today joined with a Michigan business owner and the head of the Alliance for American Manufacturing to discuss new evidence that the Chinese are strong-arming Michigan businesses into handing over their intellectual property and technology as the cost of doing business in China. Michigan businessman Wayne Olsen contacted Senator Stabenow in early January to share a letter he received when he was trying to export his products to China. He was repeatedly asked to sign away his rights by completing a form letter that said exporting to China was contingent on turning over sensitive information about how his products are made. Senator Stabenow and her staff have been working with Mr. Olsen on the issue for weeks. -

Chairwoman Stabenow Announces Support For Michigan Producers
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced federal support for Michigan Sugar Company, a cooperative of sugar beet producers, and Vandenberg Farms, a farm in Imlay City. The grants are awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture Value-Added Producer Grant initiative to help farmers and growers develop marketing strategies for agricultural commodities. Rural development funds are used for business plans, working capital for marketing value-added products, and for farm-based renewable energy projects. -
Chairwoman Stabenow Announces Support For Southeast Michigan Blueberry Family-Farm
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the U.S. Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced federal support for Sandy Acres, LLC, a Southeast Michigan family-owned u-pick blueberry farm. The grant will help Sandy Acres, LLC develop a business and marketing plan for processing (dehydrating) and packaging chocolate and yogurt-covered blueberries. The grant is awarded by the United States Department of Agriculture Value-Added Producer Grant initiative to help farmers and growers develop marketing strategies for agricultural commodities. Rural development funds are used for business plans, working capital for marketing value-added products, and for farm-based renewable energy projects.
