Senators Stabenow and Peters Announce Confirmation of Brandy R. McMillion to be United States District Court Judge in the Eastern District of Michigan

WASHINGTON—U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters announced the U.S. Senate has confirmed Brandy R. McMillion to be U.S. District Court Judge for the Eastern District of Michigan. McMillion’s confirmation marks 150 judges, including 50 Black judges, confirmed since President Biden took office.

McMillion was nominated by President Biden on June 28. On July 26, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee held a hearing considering her nomination. A video of the hearing can be found here. A video of Senator Stabenow’s remarks can be found here.

“Brandy McMillion’s confirmation is wonderful news for Michigan. She has been a thoughtful public servant throughout her time with the U.S. Attorney’s Office, and I know she will continue her excellent work as U.S. District Court Judge,” said Senator Stabenow.

“Brandy McMillion is a committed public servant, whose dedication to defending justice and the rule of law will serve the people of Michigan well,” said Senator Peters. “I was honored to help confirm her to the federal bench.”

Brandy R. McMillion has served as an Assistant United States Attorney in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Michigan since 2015. McMillion has served as the Chief of the office’s General Crimes Unit since 2022. Previously, McMillion was a senior litigation associate at Bryan Cave L.L.P. from 2012 to 2015, an associate at Perkins Coie L.L.P. from 2007 to 2012, and an associate at Pepper Hamilton L.L.P. from 2006 to 2007. She received her J.D. from George Washington University Law School in 2006 and her B.S.E. and her M.S.E. from the University of Michigan in 2001 and 2002.
