WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, today announced $139,000 in grants for two rural West Michigan communities. The City of New Buffalo will receive a grant for $40,000 to reconstruct their waterfront and municipal marina. The City of Allegan will receive a grant for $99,000 to finish their downtown development project. These funds come from the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Business Development Grant Program.

As Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry, Senator Stabenow led the charge to continue the Rural Business Development Grant program in the 2018 Farm Bill.

“Rebuilding our infrastructure and revitalizing our downtowns is key for boosting economic activity in rural communities,” said Senator Stabenow. “This important investment will support our small businesses and help attract more visitors to New Buffalo and Allegan.”
