Thursday, August 13, 2015

U.S. Senators Debbie Stabenow and Gary Peters today announced $96,330 for the Battle Creek Fire Department in Calhoun County. This grant is awarded through the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program.

"Our firefighters put their lives on the line every day to keep our families, homes, and communities safe," said Senator Stabenow. "These new resources will help the Battle Creek Fire Department buy the equipment they need to safely protect their community."

"It is vital that first responders have the necessary equipment to protect themselves when responding to emergency situations," Senator Peters said. "I applaud this funding, which will help ensure that Battle Creek firefighters have the resources needed to continue making our neighborhoods safer places to work and raise a family."

The Assistance to Firefighters Grant program is part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). These competitive grants will help fund professional training programs, update equipment and facilities, and provide new supplies to help first-responders handle hazards efficiently and effectively.
