Senator Stabenow Statement on Canadian Government Report Assessing Lake Huron Nuclear Waste Site
Thursday, May 07, 2015U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow issued the following statement regarding the Canadian government's report examining the environmental and public health effects of a proposed nuclear waste facility to be built on the shores of Lake Huron:
"I am deeply disappointed by the Canadian government's review of the proposed nuclear waste site on the shores of Lake Huron. By including a number of recommendations, the report clearly recognizes significant environmental risks, and I'm not willing to take chances with the fate of our Great Lakes hoping these recommendations will be followed. I have been opposed to this plan from day one and will continue to fight to keep Michigan families and businesses safe by urging the Canadian government to stop this project from being built."
