Thursday, March 13, 2014

U.S. Senators Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow today welcomed President Obama's signature on a bill they introduced to protect more than 30,000 acres of wilderness at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. This new law will help protect and conserve Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore for future generations.

"This legislation is a victory for the people of Michigan and all those, now and for years to come, who will be able to experience this precious natural wonder," Levin said. "Many Michiganians have worked long and hard to make this day possible. The reward for their hard work is more than 30,000 miles of matchless beauty, preserved for generations to come."

"I'm glad the President recognized the importance of Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore today. This designation will protect their breathtaking beauty for generations to come," Stabenow said. "The Dunes bring over one million visitors a year to Michigan from across the country. By designating this wilderness land, we are helping promote one of our state's top Pure Michigan tourist attractions and protecting an integral part of our Great Lakes."
