Stabenow Statement Regarding President Obamas Planned Visit to LG Chem-Compact Power Battery Plant in Holland
WASHINGTON- U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) today made the following statement after President Obama announced he will be attending a groundbreaking ceremony for the LG Chem-Compact Power battery plant in Holland next week. As a member of Senate Finance Committee, Stabenow led the effort to encourage the production of advanced batteries here at home through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
"President Obama is committed to a 21 st Century manufacturing strategy that creates Michigan jobs and moves us closer to energy independence. When we passed the Recovery Act last year, Michigan companies received over half of the national battery funding available. Now Michigan ranks third in the country for clean energy patents.
"Next week's groundbreaking at the LG Chem-Compact Power facility is yet another culmination of a private-public partnership that will create hundreds of jobs in the Holland area, and I am pleased President Obama will be returning to Michigan for this event."
